On Thanksgiving Day

Today is the 26th of November (the fourth Thursday of November). It is Thanksgiving Day, one of the national holidays celebrated in the United States. There is always a family reunion on this great occasion.

Mrs. White: Mr. white: The same to you. Are you doing anything special?

Mrs. White: I’m having some friends over. We’re going to have dinner with them at home. Mr. White: Shall I help you to get every thing ready for the party?

Mrs. White: Sure. Go upstairs and get the clean table-cloth and the new set of teacups. Mr. White: OK.

(A few minutes later.)

Mr. White: Sophia, here are the cups and the tablecloth you want. What else can I do for

you?

Mrs. White: Em. Let me see. We’ve got some beef, vegetables and wine. But I couldn’t find a

single turkey in the market this morning. Would you please go to the Metro

Supermarket to get one?

Mr. White: A turkey? Yes, of course, a turkey for the Thanksgiving dinner. It wouldn’t be a

Thanksgiving dinner without a turkey, as your mother says. 买个大的还是小的？Mrs. White: Mr. White: As you with. What else do you need for the dinner?

Mrs. White: Well, a box of sugar and some fruit. That’ll be good enough to make a perfect

Thanksgiving dinner. By the way, 公今天下午来咱家？on your way back home, will you go to Helen’s house and Mr. White: Mrs. White: There must have been something wrong with her telephone receiver. I tried to

ring her several times this morning, but nobody answered.

Mr. White: I’ll go there later. Anything else?

Mrs. White: That’s it. Mr. White: By bike. go to the Metro on foot. 这对我来说太长了。That’s too much for me. Besides,

Helen’s house is on the other end of the street.

Mrs. White: But be careful while you’re riding in the street. The other day I saw a terrible bike

Mr. White: Don’t scare me, please, sweetheart. I’m not a good rider, but I’ve kept a good

safety record for about two years. You know that, don’t you?

The doorbell rings. Mrs. White comes to open the door. There are two women. One os Nancy Carson, and the other is Helen King.

Mrs. White: Good afternoon.

Nancy & Helen: 回答Good afternoon.

Mrs. White: Sit down, please. Nancy, how is your husband?
